St Mary the Virgin is nestled in the heart of Yorkshire’s beautiful Nidderdale Valley. In the 12th Century the monks of Byland Abbey built a large Grange at Ramsgill. The remains of their chapel can be seen behind the east end of the present church which was built in 1842. From a seat in the churchyard there are lovely views over Gouthwaite Reservoir with its fascinating bird life.

St Mary the Virgin is a small rural church which celebrates Holy Communion using the traditional Book of Common Prayer. Do come and join us!

Whilst visiting St Mary’s why not visit How Stean Gorge, Lofthouse? Whether for the scrumptious café or to explore the steep-sided chasm with natural caves it’s worth a visit. Or visit the Methodist Chapel in Wath village. It is architecturally unique having five sides each of different lengths.
